Playroom Project: Toys R Us Shopping Spree with LUDM

On Monday, March 26, students from Lamar University Dance Marathon (LUDM) took off on a shopping spree at Toys R Us in Beaumont, Texas. They spent the last year raising money for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals in Southeast Texas and chose to focus the money they raised on the pediatric playroom at CHRISTUS Southeast Texas St. Elizabeth. They will be purchasing new furniture and new toys to stock the playroom and make it a fun and comfortable place for both pediatric patients and their parents.

The first step in their project was to create a plan and budget for how they will be spending the money they raised. After the plan was finalized, Cade, Averie, Dustin, Kendall, Cody, and Nathan took the money set aside for toys and went to Toys R Us. The LUDM students had a great time picking out toys for all ages that meet hospital playroom standards as well as their personal standards for fun. “It was cool to get to hand pick the toys that will go in St. Elizabeth’s pediatric playroom,” said Cade Johnson, LUDM President. “We spent about a year raising money for this project and we’re all excited to see it starting to come to life.” From Mr. Potato Head and Hotwheels cars to shape-sorters and dolls, the pediatric playroom at St. Elizabeth is soon to be filled with all new toys so it can remain a fun place for patients of all ages to come and play as they heal.
