What is Miracle Network Dance Marathon?
A National Movement, with Local Impact:
Miracle Network Dance Marathon is a philanthropic movement, uniting students at over 400 colleges, universities and high schools across North America. As a fundraising program for their local CMN Hospital, each campus’s Dance Marathon organization works throughout the year to raise funds and awareness to benefit the hospital treating sick and injured kids right in the school’s local community.
100% of what is raised by the student participants goes directly to their local hospital. Each hospital directs funding to where it is needed the most, which often includes charitable care (to help cover the cost of care for families), equipment, research, treatments, special services (like Child Life programming), and education.
With each Dance Marathon program supporting their local hospital, they are provided opportunities to witness their fundraising in action and meet patients and families who have been impacted by the funds raised for the hospital.
A Leadership Opportunity:
Dance Marathon empowers students to become leaders and make a difference in the world. Involvement provides students with a hands-on service-learning experience that develops a sense of community, bringing students and organizations together from all across campus.
Students involved in a campus’s dance marathon organization spend a year gaining leadership, teamwork, and nonprofit business experience while raising funds and awareness for their local CMN Hospital. The year culminates with a dance marathon event on each campus where students get to meet patient families treated at their local hospital, participate in games and dancing, enjoy entertainment, and reveal their annual fundraising total.
As this movement comes to campus, a new Dance Marathon at Arkansas State University student organization will be formed on campus. Staff from CMN Hospitals are currently recruiting student leaders who will help form the founding executive board for the organization. Executive board members will be responsible for laying the foundation for the organization, recruiting student participants, planning and implementing fundraising and awareness efforts, building relationships with university and community partners, and hosting the inaugural dance marathon event.
All students on campus have the opportunity to be involved in Dance Marathon at Arkansas State University throughout the year as well. Once the new organization is created, the newly selected student leaders will be recruiting organizations and individuals to sign-up as fundraisers and begin fundraising by asking family and friends for donations, attending fundraising events, and more.
Our Cause:
Dance Marathon at Arkansas State University will all be supporting Arkansas Children’s, the local CMN Hospital in Little Rock, Arkansas. Arkansas Children’s, Inc. is the only healthcare system in the state solely dedicated to caring for Arkansas’ 710,000 children and transforming child health throughout the region. The private, non-profit organization includes two pediatric hospitals, a pediatric research institute and USDA nutrition center, a philanthropic foundation, the Arkansas Children’s Hospital Jonesboro Clinic and other statewide clinics, and many education and outreach programs. Arkansas Children’s Hospital (ACH) is a 336-bed, Magnet-recognized facility in Little Rock operating the state’s only Level I pediatric trauma center; the state’s only burn center; the state’s only Level IV neonatal intensive care unit; the state’s only pediatric intensive care unit; and the state’s only nationally recognized pediatric transport program. Additionally, ACH is nationally ranked by U.S. News & World Report in five pediatric subspecialties (2019-20): Cardiology & Heart Surgery, Nephrology, Neurology & Neurosurgery, Orthopedics and Pulmonology. The Arkansas Children’s Hospital Jonesboro Clinic, renovated and expanded in 2019, now brings 18 subspecialties to the 99,000 kids in the Northeast Arkansas region. Generous philanthropic and volunteer engagement has sustained Arkansas Children’s since it began as an orphanage in 1912, and today ensures the system can fundamentally transform the health of children in Arkansas and beyond.
