When fundraising takes you to Hawaii: Congratulations, Cindy Hund!

The reward for fundraising for your local children’s hospital is usually coupled with a sense of fulfillment, knowing you’ve done something to make an impact on kids and families you’ll most likely never meet. But for one lucky fundraiser on Child Health Day fundraising also meant the chance to win two first-class tickets from Delta and a five-night stay at a Marriott property in Hawaii – all compliments of CMN Hospitals.

This year’s winner is Cindy Hund, a senior at Clemson University with big plans. She wants to become a physical therapist, ideally a pediatric physical therapist, and hopefully work at a Children’s Miracle Network hospital. Cindy shares some of her journey with Dance Marathon below.

Q: How did you initially become involved in Dance Marathon?

A: My older sister encouraged me to join Clemson Miracle as a freshman. I joined the Family Events Committee that year and immediately fell in love with the organization. Hearing the miracle family’s stories and getting to meet a lot of the kids at our hospital completely changed my world. After attending my first Dance Marathon and seeing how much of an impact that Clemson Miracle made on Prisma Health Children’s Hospital-Upstate, I knew I wanted to pour my heart and soul into the work Clemson Miracle does. I was on the executive board my sophomore and junior years. This year, I am humbled to be Clemson Miracle’s executive director. This organization has given me a passion for my future profession, a passion for improving health care, and a family of students with the same love for the cause.

Q: You’re a successful and accomplished fundraiser! Can you share some of your tips?

The best fundraising advice I can give is to just approach everyone you know! The worst they can do is say no, and most people want to make a positive change in their local community. Send letters to those friends or family that don’t normally use technology! Facebook fundraisers have also been a big source of donations for our program this year. Also, I love donating to my friends in other programs around the nation, and they always donate back! It’s awesome to show support to other Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals too!

Q: What would you say to anyone considering becoming involved in Dance Marathon?

Being involved in this program will shake your world. You will get to meet some of the sweetest and most inspiring families and children. You will learn non-profit leadership skills, management skills, and public speaking skills. You will join a family of miracle makers that will forever hold a special place in your heart. Nothing bonds you with your peers like coming together for an impactful cause.

Congratulations Cindy, and thanks for all you do For The Kids!
