HuskyTHON and UNI Dance Marathon Receive Excellence in Fundraising Award

Miracle Network Dance Marathon recognized top-performing Dance Marathon programs at Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals’ Ignite: Peer-to-Peer Leadership Conference held in Kansas City, MO, from July 17-20, 2025.

The Excellence in Fundraising Award celebrates programs that demonstrate exceptional fundraising results through strategic planning, participant activation, and effective implementation of peer-to-peer fundraising best practices. This year, two programs were recognized for their efforts in elevating their impact and championing the mission of Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals.

HuskyTHON – University of Connecticut

HuskyTHON saw a record-breaking year, achieving a 21% year-over-year increase in funds raised and surpassing the $2 million milestone for the first time in program history. With over 4,000 registered participants, HuskyTHON focused heavily on participant communication and education, resulting in an impressive activation rate of over 70% and an increase in average participant fundraising from $357 to $399.

To support their fundraisers, the team introduced “Why Workshops” to help students connect more deeply with the mission and their personal reasons for fundraising. They also elevated their segmented outreach, delivering individualized tips and tailored support based on participant needs. By reimagining the purpose of their Check-In Week, they empowered participants to reach their minimum fundraising goals and push toward their next milestones.

UNI Dance Marathon – University of Northern Iowa

UNI Dance Marathon achieved a remarkable 56% year-over-year increase in fundraising, reaching the $200,000 mark for the first time since the pandemic. Their leadership prioritized intentionality in their outreach and mission education, ensuring participants understood the impact they could make.

This mission-driven approach led to a rise in participant activation from 65% to 78%, and a dramatic increase in average participant fundraising, growing from $348 to $542. By leveraging their kickoff event to build momentum going into the Activation Sprint, UNI Dance Marathon sustained energy and engagement all the way through their main event.

Congratulations to both HuskyTHON and UNI Dance Marathon for your outstanding achievements. Your commitment to strategy, communication, and mission-focused fundraising has not only inspired your campuses but also strengthened the movement nationwide.
