Dance Marathon at Louisiana State University Receives 2020 Virtual Marathon Programming Award

Dance Marathon at Louisiana State University was awarded the Virtual Marathon Programming Award at Dance Marathon Leadership Conference 2020. The Virtual Marathon Programming Award recognizes an organization that implemented exceptional and engaging virtual programming that positively engaged their constituents.”

DM at LSU threw an amazing virtual marathon, despite all of the hurdles that COVID-19 threw at them. At a time when it would have been easy to give up, DM at LSU rose above and created innovative solutions to the problems they were facing. Their goal was to incorporate as many of their in-person plans as they could virtualize, and attempt to give their participants as “normal” of a dance marathon experience as they could.

In the first two hours of their virtual event and in the last hour, DM at LSU utilized Zoom to host a live stream on their Facebook pages. This allowed them to play a lot of their pre-recorded videos that they were planning on showing at their main event, have a live fundraising push, and reach a large audience authentically. DM at LSU utilized platforms like Kahoot to engage participants even when they were not live streaming. They asked their Miracle Kids to send in videos of their favorite meals for an FTKitchen segment they aired, to send in videos of their stories, to send in videos of Tik Tok dance tutorials, and so much more. The program was even able to uphold the tradition of performing the linedance live at the top of every hour!
