Cal Poly Dance Marathon Child Health Day 2018 Recap

This post was submitted by Sophia O’Keefe, a Cal Poly Dance Marathon participant for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals through childrensmiraclenetworkhospitals.org/guest-post

Funds were raised, participants registered, corn hole was played, miracle stories were shared and Cal Poly Dance Marathon made the pledge to #commitforthekids along with 230 other campuses for Child Health Day on Monday, Oct. 1.

Our CPDM theme was “39”, which represents the 39 babies in the NICU treated every hour at Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals.  Participants were encouraged to raise $39 for CHD as a way to express their commitment for the kids treated at Cottage Children’s Medical Center.

A booth was set up on our campus where 39 CMN Hospitals balloons were hung to represent our theme, and students were invited to register and begin their fundraising journeys.

By the end of Child Health Day, CPDM raised $1,074, contributing to the nationwide total of $493,608.

We are so proud to continue our journey of spreading awareness for our cause and being one of the many amazing and hard-working Miracle Network Dance Marathons.  It’s days like Child Health Day that remind us why we do what we do. As always, for the kids!

Sophia is a senior journalism student at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and the PR Chair for Cal Poly Dance Marathon. This is her third year as part of CPDM Executive Board, and she and the rest of her team are aiming to make more miracles happen for their 2019 Big Event. Sophia dances because she believes all children deserve an equal chance to live amazing lives and that we can all help make that happen. Learn more about Dance Marathon.
