SMU Dance Marathon Receives $10,000 from Move for Miles

SMU Dance Marathon is a student-run organization that is dedicated to raising funds for our local Children’s Miracle Network Hospital, Children’s Health. This year-long fundraising movement culminates with a 6-hour event in which participants dance and “stand for those that can’t.” This year, Dance Marathon is partnered with Homecoming, and will be held on November 2nd in Hughes-Trigg from 3 to 9pm. Dance Marathon includes dancing, entertainment, activities, food, visits from patient families, and 100% of the funds raised through SMU Dance Marathon directly support life-saving research at Children’s Health.

This research impacts kids like Miles, son of SMU alums, Jason and Stephanie Dagelewicz (’04, ’05, and ’09 MBA). During their time at SMU, Jason played football, and Stephanie, a Hunt Scholar and M Award recipient, ran track. They are joined by their three children: Dylan, Miles, and Juliana. At 16 months old their son, Miles, was diagnosed with a rare blood cancer called Langerhans Cell Histiocytosis, or LCH. Now 4 years old, Miles is doing well and visits Children’s Health regularly for treatment. In honor of their son, Jason and Stephanie co-founded Move for Miles Childhood Cancer Foundation. Their mission is to harness the power of play to raise funds and awareness for childhood cancer research; create “sMiles” for families in treatment with childhood cancer; and support the long-term treatment of childhood cancer survivors. They showed their support September 7th  for SMU Dance Marathon through a collaboration with their foundation and to present them with a surprise $10,000 check. Join the Dagelewicz Family in helping SMU Dance Marathon “make life better for children” by reaching their goal of $55,000 for the kids at Children’s Health. Visit SMU Dance Marathon on Facebook and Instagram to sign up and donate.
