Dance Marathon at Missouri State Receives 2020 Best New Dance Marathon Award

Dance Marathon at Missouri State was awarded the Best New Dance Marathon award at Dance Marathon Leadership Conference 2020. The Best New Dance Marathon award recognizes an organization that hosted its first or second Dance Marathon event in the 2019-2020 academic year and was chosen based on a combination of fundraising successes, year-round programming, and event execution.

Missouri State University lacked an organization that united campus across all types of students. This year, the founding executive board at Missouri State Dance Marathon worked to establish Dance Marathon as that uniting organization. At their kick-off, they hosted an education event with a catered dinner, Miracle Family speakers, and a presentation about Dance Marathon. This event had 300+ attendees and resulted in 45 registrations.

While COVID-19 cut the year short, the program wrapped up their year with a digital “Celebration Week” campaign. The goal with this campaign was to recognize and engage with participants, miracle families, team captains, top teams, and individual fundraisers. The week was successful in bringing more awareness, momentum, and excitement.

In the first year as a program, Dance Marathon at Missouri State was able to register 273 participants, create 25 teams, and receive $5,000 in sponsorship donations. They exceeded their fundraising goal by more than $10,000 and raised $25,146 For The Kids.
