DANCE MARATHON AT COCOA BEACH RECEIVES THE 2022 COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT AWARD- HIGH SCHOOL

Miracle Network Dance Marathon recognized top performing Dance Marathon programs at the Dance Marathon Leadership Conference held in Atlanta, GA July 21-24, 2022.

Dance Marathon at Cocoa Beach was recognized with the Community Engagement – High School award for 2022.  The Community Engagement Award recognizes the Dance Marathon organization that executed a successful initiative, event, or campaign to reach a new demographic in the campus or local community.

This year, Dance Marathon at Cocoa Beach hosted its first-ever haunted school tour, Mayhem on Minutemen (MoM). Volunteers, or “Ghost Guides”, lead guests through this 30-minute tour around the school campus, through 10 different rooms/scare zones.  MoM was open to the public, a first for Cocoa Beach’s Dance Marathon organization. Around 1,000 community members dared to enter the tour. Included in the two-night fun was also a scary-free, kids’ zone, which included games, candy, and stickers. School and community groups like Cocoa Beach Kiwanis Club, the school Gay-Straight Alliance, the Swim and Dive team, and more supported the event. MoM was an enormous success, creating a family-friendly event for the community that also supported Orlando Health Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children. Fantastic job, Dance Marathon at Cocoa Beach!

Miracle Network Dance Marathon is an international movement, involving over 400 colleges, universities and K-12 schools across the United States and Canada that fundraise for their local Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. These students work tirelessly throughout the year to raise funds one dollar at a time by making the ask to family and friends. Their hard work culminates in a 6–40-hour celebration on their campus or virtually, where participants have the opportunity to rally together as a community for their local Children’s Miracle Network Hospital. Students involved in Dance Marathon gain valuable skills in fundraising, peer management, delegation, and philanthropy. Miracle Network Dance Marathon programs have collectively raised more than $300 million since 1991.
