Cal Poly Dance Marathon surpasses 2k goal for Giving Tuesday

This post was submitted by Sophia O’Keefe for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals through childrensmiraclenetworkhospitals.org/guest-post

On Tuesday, Nov. 27, Cal Poly Dance Marathon celebrated Giving Tuesday by fundraising over $2,800 for their cause, in which 20% of cash and Venmo donations went to a fire relief drive for those affected by recent Camp and Woolsey fires. This surpassed their goal of 2k for the day.

The CPDM Executive Board held a booth on campus for a few hours that day with a competition for different residence halls to create the longest “chain of hope” to win a pizza party. Each paper to add to the chain was $1, which went to the day’s fundraising efforts. The freshman residence hall, Tenaya, was the winner with 64 links on their chain of hope.

There were also fundraising efforts on social media that day, with various posts requesting Venmo donations or personal fundraising page donations by CPDM members and registered dancers.

CPDM members used this fund pyramid as a motive for their friends and family to fill in each circle with a donation until it was full.

The CPDM fundraising efforts will not cease here. With $80,000 as this year’s ultimate goal For The Kids at Cottage Children’s Medical Center, this is where it begins!
